Because reading is fundamental. Without reading, you couldn't write..so that's why it's important.

Reading is the basis for a strong vocabulary. Reading allows people to learn at a faster rate. The more a person reads the better they will be at understanding, not only books, but also the topics taught in other classes. Reading can improve grammar as well. Seeing how a sentence is written will subconsciously teach people how to write.

Because it opens up all sorts of possibilities. You don't have to be confined to just your own locality and experience - reading brings you anywhere and everywhere, and helps you learn. All the education, all the wisdom ad knowledge is found inside the covers of books (or online, if you read it there). Even communication would be difficult without literacy. Oh, and it keeps the brain active. so will help you live better longer.

Reading is a skill you will need through out your life. If you are unable to read, people can decieve you more easily.You may be driving (which you can't do if you can't read) and when you are unable to read a sign that says merge left and then the road merges suddenly, you could get in a serious accident. You can't order very well at resteraunts. You can not easily get a job if you can't read instructions or write reports. It is nigh impossibly to get along in today's society with out the ability to read.

for me blackrose, it opens up a world of imagination that helps me escape from this life. I need a lot of escape options! Watching TV destroys brain cells, because you just stare. Reading gets you into the story and gets those synopsis connecting.
Reading can help avoid alzheimers and other brain dysfunctions because it is brain activity! Help a body to stay young as well.

Because it makes you smarter and if you cant read you cant graduate or get a driving license. Its the most important thing because reading is everywhere you look.

to get by in life, you really ahve to know who to read. think of all the things you do every day that require reading, even if it's only a few words. mothers have accidentally poisoned their children because they couldn't read the directions on the prescriptions. people don't go to restaurants because they can't read the menu. they get cheated because they can't read the contract. people who read get better jobs with higher pay. life is just better when you can read.
