She thinks that by me leaving my hair loose I am obviously 'asking for it'. I dress very modestly, a hoodie, jeans and trainers most of the time. My hair is nice, its down to my waist. But is it not just absoloutely irrational of her to have this fear? What shall I say to her? She wants me to put my hair in a plait!! There's no way I'm doing that. Please help.

No one who ever gets raped, takes a part in that rape. If you walk outside naked, you still aren't asking for it. Your mom need to maybe loosen her plait, because its messing with her brain.

It is a fairly common concern amongst parents about their daughter being raped or becoming pregnant before it is planned. You sound sensible in the way you dress and handle yourself. Perhaps compromise and wear your hair down sometimes and up other days. Let your Mum know you appreciate your concern for her and that she will need to learn to trust you. Then do what you can to stay out of trouble and do her proud. All the best.

all moms are paranoid about their daughter getting raped and usually the things they think will get you raped don't make any sense... but you should carry a rape whistle or something else that might make her feel more comfortable that way you can still wear your hair down but will be "ready and armed" in case something DOES happen

Ask if she'd feel better if you got a can of mace/pepper spray or a rape whistle... or even take a self-defense class. Moms are paranoid sometimes... that's part of what makes them moms.

um.. i dont see what ur hair has to do with you getting raped. rappers do not rape because of the gurls hair then do it out of perverted ways. oyur hair has nothing ot do with it as far as im concerned. so its a lil silly for her to say that. me and all my friends wear their hair down and we are juss fine.

Your mom is right. It happens to often. Maybe cut your hair and donate it to locks of love. then your mom will get off your back and you can still dress how you want.

Ohh mothers, it's ok my mum doesn't want me to wear my hair down to school either. I put it in a bun, then take it out.
