The above is a very good suggestion; I'd also add Stuart Little (also by E. B. White) and the books of Dick King-Smith. He's best known for Babe (yes, the one the movie was based on, but the book and its sequels were better) but he has a lot of other books told from an animal's point of view.

I'd also recommend the Freddy books by Walter Brooks. Animal fantasy.

Oh, and Robert Lawson books, especially Rabbit Hill.
