I'm working on a sculpture and need to buy 4x8 sheets of styrofoam, or other rigid foam. I know it is sold at lumberyards, but I was wondering if there is anywhere online I could buy it for cheaper, or if there are other stores I should contact. I am looking to buy in 1, 2, or 4 inch thicknesses. Thanks!

I am hoping to find white, as I would rather not paint it. I don't need it to have much detail, as I'm essentially just building a bunch of rectangular frames out of it.

I was planning to use a Japanese pull saw...unless there is some way to make a hot wire?? Also, do you recommend using a regular drill bit to drill holes, or a table saw to cut it? Thanks.

Without knowing where you are certainly HD or Lowes.

I've been involved with theater for many years and sculpted foam is something I do also.

I'm curious as to your methods. Hot Knife; hack saw blade; hair dryer; soldering iron; etc.

Depending on the Type of sculpture; do you also use FoamCote/ and or; that and cheese cloth?

If your not doing any major detail; but using cutting tools; the large cell; white Stryo is fine. I prefer the Construction grade; small cell foam; usually used for insulation; often in Blue or Pink.

Backing up; to the Hot Knife; What a great tool; albeit not cheap. Mine had dozens of blades; and templates; as well as plates allowing that I could create molding; such as found for DOORS/ WINDOWS/ COVE BASE/ etc.; in a single swipe.

Certainly too; theatrical supply houses; construction supply houses; perhaps spcializing more in the Thicker "BLOCKS" of foam; usually in the large cell white. I've purchased it as thick as 12 inches; but not in large sheet stock.

Buying it on-line wouldn't be a good idea. It will have to be shipped, after all. Your best best is the one you're avoiding. Not necessarily a lumberyard but a place like Home Depot or other building supply store. Good luck!
