Hi,

For this question, we first need to distribute the 2 over the factor x+1 by multiplying it through to every component present within the parentheses to get:

2x + 2 = 3x - 3

Next, add 3 to both sides of the equation to get:

2x + 5 = 3x

Then subtract 2x from both sides to get x alone and find out that the final answer is:

FINAL ANSWER: x = 5

I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Sincerely,

Andrew

2(x+1)=3x - 3
2x + 2 = 3x - 3
5 = x
check
2(5+1) = 3(5) -3
2*6 = 15 - 3
12 = 12

You've got to be kidding me.

Okay.
Multply by 2....
2(x+1) = 2(x) + 2(1) = 2x + 2 = 3x - 3
2x + 2 = 3x - 3
2x + 2 - 2x + 3 = 3x - 3 - 2x + 3
5 = x.
Voila.
