How about giving credit to the people who actually DID something? You know, the American inventors, investors, consumers, etc?

Newt and the gang is just what you said a gang of thugs. Bill Clinton deserves all he can get because he was a President first and a Democrat second. You felt safe and healthy when Clinton was President , not like it is today your afraid to talk on the phone get on the Internet. You want believe but I got a email from Karl Rove telling me, "I'm watching you." that is fine just keep watching maybe you'll learn something Karl not going around being a snitch, so bring it own you little fat ugly twit. I never could stand him and I dislike him more everyday.

SURE Newt and the gang deserve credit, and while they are at it, they can take credit for the weak national security/airline security bill they put out, that Clinton complained about being too weak, until he left office, 9 months prior to September 11th.

Neither. The People of the USA are responsible for the prosperous 90's. Politicians can ruin an economy but cannot do much to better it.

If you want to give them (Newt/Clinton) any credit, you can say they didn't screw it up. But they did nothing to cause it. Greenspan and the Feds could get some credit for their monetary policies.

He gets credit for selecting Robert Rubin to head the Treasury Department, extending Greenspan's tenure at the FOMC, and for bailing out Mexico when it took real political leadership to make that call when it was not popular but the right thing to do (and Mexico repaid us early contrary to the naysayers), and it averted a mass economic migration that would have went hand in hand with Mexico's bankruptcy.

Bill Clinton was merely riding on the coat tails of Ronald Reagan. The only thing he deserves credit for is marring the reputation of the office itself.I know other presidents have been equally immoral, but at least they had the common sophistication not to get caught.

actually a majority of the "roaring nineties" can be contributed to the fact that someone created a device that can store tons and tons of information. people poured billions and billions into the prospect that this new device will bring huge windfalls. But then cooler heads finally figured out that storage means nothing when you havent created any thing new to store.

but most of the rest can be atributed to the congress holding fast and not giving in to Clintons bad ideas, and yes a few of his good ones were accepted and vice versa with Clinton and the congress.

The "roaring nineties" wasn't exactly a good thing. If it wasn't for the "roaring nineties" there would not have been the ENRON, MCI, HealthSouth fiasco's.

I think that Al Gore has more to do with it. The economic boom in the Clinton years was partially due to Clinton's fiscal conservatism in balancing the budget, but also due a lot to the evolution of the arpanet into the internet and creation of the world wide web. Clinton's balancing of the budget freed up investment dollars from buying treasury bills so that they could be invested in the new technology. Al Gore's pushing of funding through the Senate, over the objections of Republicans who "knew" that the internet was a passing fad, was the catalyst for the internet, the resultant boom in personal computers and a lot of stuff that we now take for granted.

I know that Andy Dick deserves credit for the "gay nineties" and that Barney Frank deserves some of the credit as well.
