For argument's sake, let's assume Ohio State runs the table in the Big Ten and makes the National Title Game. Who should play them, assuming that the trend of craziness continues...

Option (A) - A "1-loss" team with a high strength of schedule like California, Kentucky, Oklahoma, or Oregon, for example...

*OR*

Option (B) - An undefeated team that has run the table with a weaker schedule like Boston College, Hawaii, Kansas, or South Florida?

Edit to John D: I don't think South Florida has a weak schedule, however the Big East is very weak this year given the surprise losses to powerhouses Louisville & Rutgers. It speaks volumes when Cincinnati & Connecticut have better records than UL or Rutgers. When you place South Florida's schedule next to a team like LSU, Oklahoma, or Oregon, there's no contest that South Florida has the easier road.

Uh, I'll take Option B please.
Granted, option A would make for more viewers and all that jazz....but being undefeated is being undefeated...and if the BCS claims that the last two teams standing (so to speak) are the ones that will play one another, then why not allow those schools a shot? I think it's only fair. It might not make sesne, but it's sticking to the BS (excuse me, the BSC) rules.

The next couple of weeks will sourt this out more, but right now I see 3 good candidates.

1: LSU - 3 wins over ranked teams & just the one loss to an inspired Kentucky on the road.
2: South Carolina - Tough schedule 2 wins over ranked team including a road victory over Georgia & a convincing win over Kentucky.

But my choice would be..

3: South Florida - I don't like it. But they've done what they need to so far to earn it. Road win at Auburn looks huge now as well as the win over WV. They get the edge because they're still unbeaten. Now let's see if they can stay that way.

If Kentucky goes undefeated they will have to beat Florida and then win the SEC title game, which makes their schedule pretty tough. Kansas would have to win the big 12 title game. And South Florida has already beat Auburn at Auburn and West Virginia and they still have to beat Rutgers, so if any of these 3 go undefeated they won't have an easy road to get there.

I will always say OU unless they lose again.

But right now LSU is the only one loss team which is in position to play for the National Championship.

If any of the unbeatens win out, they WILL go. I would be surprised if KU goes undefeated, because that means they will have beaten Mizzou, KSU, and OU in the Big XII Championship game. If KU wins out, they should be considered for the game, because then they will be proven. But I seriously doubt they will.

John D- Cinncinatti lost to Louisville at home this weekend 24-28

Kevin Z- it's going to be hard for Kentucky to go undefeated, seeing as they lost to LSU.
John D - Cincy lost to Louisville. 6-1 isn't undefeated.

I think Ohio State is going to run the table, they don't have much of a threat from anyone on their schedule.
It's hard to say who deserves to play them for the National Championship, but I'd say Oklahoma.
California will probably have 2 more losses. Kentucky will probably lose to UF Saturday. Oregon will probably have another loss. But another team to look out for is South Carolina. Unless they self destruct, they're going to be right there at the end of the year!

Option (A) for sure. In fact, I have a problem with Ohio State being number 1. Maybe OSU is the best team in the country, but we'll never know because they have only played teams such as Youngstown State and Akron. I am not so sure that the top 3 even belong in the top 5, or perhaps top 10.

I'm a huge SEC fan.But South Florida went on the road and beat Auburn. Then beat West Virginia. The same West Virginia that was touted as a National Title contender. It's not like they are undefeated because they played an easy schedule.I see a lot of jealousy toward them. Why?I'm happy for them and their fans.

But, USF would have beaten Auburn, along with the good big east teams. Anyone undefeated from the pac ten, big east or ACC deserve a shot over a one loss SEC team. I would even consider Hawaii, but they haven't looked that impressive in their wins.

A one loss USC team who will turn their season around this week against Notre Dame. They'll have momentum going into Oregon and they'll beat the Ducks. They'll ride on that momentum the entire year.

BC is way over rated and they'll lose. Hawaii doesn't deserve anything after squeaking by San Jose State. Who? Kansas hasn't played anyone except Kansas St. who thought they'd come in and win after their win over Texas. I believe Rutgers will upset USF this week. LSU will lose one more game.

BC the ACC is usually a tough schedule, even if teams aren't ranked. They are all huge football schools. And BC's dominance would deserve a shot.
