Elinor?
is it pretty? Ugly? The name has family significance. Please tell me if you like it and if so what middle name would go with it.

I personally dont like it but if its a family name I understand you could use Ellie as a nickname I think thats cute or you could make it the middle name.

I adore it, but prefer the more familiar Eleanor spelling -- though, oddly enough, I love the simplified Elinora for the elaborated form LOL -- but if Elinor is the actual family name, I think it's equally lovely. ;)

Either way, it's a beautiful, classic name that happens to be quite versatile. If she wants to be like everyone else, she can use the nickname Ellie, Elle or Ella. If she has a more unique personality, Nora might better suit (love it, by the way). ;) And for what it's worth, Elinor is perfectly fitting with the current trend toward old-fashioned revivals, so it's not like many will think it an odd choice. It's actually quite common (in the top 300), but not to the point of being overused. So all in all, a wonderful balance. ;) I love it.

I like it! But then I am bias, my name is Eleanor.

As for the middle name I think it does depend on how many syllables are in the last name. My last name is one syllable so is my middle "Jane". With such a long first name it could be good anyway to keep the middle name short.

Good luck and Congrats!!

EDIT: I have noticed one person saying it is an old fashioned name and not many girls would like it. This statement is partly true, I can remember a few times at school hating my name, but everyone else always loved it. Deep down though I was always happy with my name, and since the age of 15 I would have it no other way! I'm now 19 and love the classic beauty of this name. Dont let others decide for you, in your heart I'm sure you will find the perfect name for your bub. (I'm going through the same thing so I know its hard and family traditions can make it harder! I have just have to decide for a little boy, I say classic over modern any day atleast the names have stood the test of time.

Elinor is a nice name. I like it. I'm thinking what could go with it..............um, maybe Elinor Isabelle, Elinor Lynn, Elinor Rose, Elinor Jade, Elinor Kaylen...
I'm really not sure about the middle names that I just put above...I hope you like one of those... but Elinor is a nice name. I'm having a baby boy and the middle name is Leonardo (my dad's name) but I can't find a first name for it. :(

It is a beautiful name BUT----- In today's society its very old fashion.. name and most young girls would not like it but again If you named her Elinor, for sure they would call he Ellie.. I named my daughter Doris Anne after her two grand mothers and in today's light like Elinor---- Very old fashion... She is now known as Dee Anne except when we yell and then it Doris Anne (hee hee hee) Things will work out for you and it is a pretty pretty name. As for the middle name I have never know anyone with out the first name of Elinor or Eleanore that did not use May for the middle but I believe you can find a better one... (Jane, Marie, Ann or Anne) God luck and God bless.... Grant M in Pennsylvania

personally, i do not like the name, HOWEVER, if it has family significance, than name her that! I think that a very cute middle name would be Rose. Elinor Rose, yes, no? i like it.

Don't like it too old fashioned. That's not to say name her something odd or trendy. Some older names are really nice and pretty (Kathleen, Elizabeth, Catherine, Ava, Audrey). If you want to use it because it's a family name use it as the middle name. Ellie is cute but the full name, no so much!
