I had an ultrasound yesterday. Saw sac but no embryo. The doctor said I was 6 weeks pregnant. Is this normal? Has anyone had this happen?

I've read that this can happen and sometimes the baby shows up a few weeks later, if it doesn't happen blighted ovum can occur. This is our first pregnancy so we're new at the whole thing. Any answers would really help. Thanks!!

Very normal sweetie, 6 wks the baby is still very small like a grape seed or smaller. There may not have been a heart beat yet either that is normal too. don't worry you and your baby will be fine.

I think you must ask your doctor about this and about everything that concerns you on this pregnancy. I would repeat the US sooner than usually, to make sure to see the embryo and the heart beat. It is important to locate it, to eliminate any chance of an ectopic pregnancy, but if you saw the sac in the uterus I guess there is no such chance, so it is a normal pregnancy and all goes well. Congratulations. But do discuss things with your doctor, because we are no experts here.

yes. at 6 weeks 1 day, I began bleeding and cramping. The u/s showed a sac, but no fetal pole or heartbeat. a week later, there was the heartbeat- though a little low. in our subsequent u/s, the heartrate was great, and everything with my little man has been fine!

It's not unsual to not be able to distinguish the baby this early on.

You will have another ultrasound at around 20 weeks gestation. You will definitely see your baby then and be able to tell the sex.

Many congrats!!
