I believe that it should on college campuses. Although it does not have to! Many colleges are private institutions and from what I gather, that does not automatically allow the students first amendmant rights.
Here is an example of how this has recently come up in my life. In a recent horrible incident at my school (a private university), a very racist statement was published in the school's newspaper. Of course people were horrified! But does the school have the right to censor students? I don't think so and neither did admin, although they released scathing remarks about the students. In the end, the students responsible were given what was coming to them by being ostracized by most of the community. Jerks. But I believe they have the right to say what they feel, even if I strongly disagree. But students are automatically not granted that right while in a private institution, like a job or a university.

I think HS students should be given the right with some exceptions. Students at this age are young and should be encouraged to express their thoughts and opinions. While true censorship may not be necessary, perhaps some oversight is in order in student publications. Although in today's day and age, students really have this right over the internet. No school can really stop that.

School is a learning experience. Part of learning is shaping your beliefs and learning how to express yourself amongst your peers. We should encourage this in young adults!

They do.

As for high school students, in general it does as well. However, it is important to note that they are minors so their rights are a bit more bounded.

It is important to note that your rights end where another's begin. Having the right to free speech does not give you the right to cause a public disturbance and you are likely to get tasered by those charged with keeping the peace if you disrupt a public event by making a highly visible @ss out of yourself.

It already is. Unless you attend a very conservative private school. Then they can do what they want.
