Hmmm, mnemonic versus acronym. Here's my take:

If you take a bunch of random words and wanna remember them easily, it's MNEMONIC. (Like those words to remember the order of the planets...)

But if you have a particular phrase and you just use the first letter of each word, it's ACRONYM. (Like NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) or DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education))
