An octopus has gills underneath its mantle it uses to extract oxygen from the water like a fish, though it is not technically a fish. An octopus cannot breathe air. It can only extract oxygen from the water. It was my understanding an octopus can go from somewhere between one and three hours, don't recall exactly, without air, if I'm not mistaken. It is very hardy that way though not the only animal that can go great lengths of time without "breathing." You will therefore sometimes see an octopus on land during low tide. Not sure what they are doing or if they would actually climb a tree but perhaps.

Given that its main predator is bigfoot, its conservation is managed by Greenpeas, its skin was a 1920s fashion accessory and that it was first brought to public attention by zapatopi.net, what do you think?
