So this is probably the weirdest question I've asked...but...

My man appreciates a clean, tidy house and I like to do that for him, but one of the things that makes are place "chaotic" is his desk area. I'd like to clean the area, but I don't want to rearrange his stuff to the point where he can't find it....

... and normally I'd ask him, but he'll just say "oh don't worry about it."

So my question is this, as someone who does this professionally for other people...what do you do to make a desk area neat and clean without "disorganizing" the person's chaos... we're talking piles on the floor, around the desk, under, on... etc

HELP!? :)

Being a chronic piler myself, I can tell you that there is hope for those with this affliction. Containerize the piles without disrupting them (disruption of piles brings on irritation when the piler insists that they know exactly where in the pile something is located).

I found using wicker containers that are a little larger than an 81/2 x 11 sheet of paper and fairly deep placed on shelves or in bookcases makes the piles appear more, tidy. Although I admit, there is still a pile of great importance on the desk right beside me, most of the stuff that I'm not immediately working on does make its way into one of the wicker baskets (most of the time).

Even a professional would have to clean around the stacks as they wouldn't be allowed to touch them. My husband is a stacker. When we met he had the same office, desk, floor etc. mess going on. He also didn't know what he had laying around. I don't allow stacking so he and I work on things that come into the house together. I have organizers to hide magazines he hasn't yet gone through, an in and out box for mail, file cabinets (for me). I still have to be responsible for the house files or they wouldn't get done. It's all about organization. He can't do it so you have to help. Start by picking up all the organizers you can, then you can sift through the stuff together and hope for the best.

My husband has the same phenomena. There is no way to really to deal with that except to ask him to file, clean, and organize it. What I do is carefully move the piles and place them on the floor, clean, and then put them back. It's all I've got. Good luck.
