Try to update the driver. You need to check the model number of your computer then type this into google along with 'driver updates'. It will take you to the manufacturer's webiste (be it Dell, Packard Bell etc.) and you will be able to download the latest drivers.
You can just go to device manager and then your mouse and update the driver there but it doesn't usually work, you usually have to download it.

Hi
I have had the same problem with my labtec mouse which is new and is supposed to be a good quality make.
My latest mouse was quite expensive and works only when it wants to work. Sometimes when I load my PC it won't work and I have to pull the plug out the back of my PC and plug it back in again. Sometimes I have to switched my PC off and on again.
Like you I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver for it. I have given up now so I shall go out and buy a new one this weekend.
In the past I have always had cheap mice and they have lasted me a good two years or more. Treating myself to a flash new mouse was a luxury for me. Oh well... never mind, hey!?
Hope you sort your problem out soon.
Blessings x

Mouses (mice?) work by using a laser to track along a surface. If you move the mouse off of the surface then the laser beam it emits cannot be reflected back to the receiver, and it will not move. You can probably still click though.

If it's wireless, try placing the mouse line of sight to the receiver. If it is wired, then invest in a new mouse.
