Anadromous fish spawn in freshwater but spend most of their lives in salt water (salmon do this)
Catadromous fish spawn in the ocean and rear in freshwater (American eels do this)
Then there are fish like tilapia that can do either

Lake Michigan has salmon, gobies, ruffles, and lampry eels. These are all salt water fish but seem to live just fine in the great lakes.
