It's a little sad and funny at the same time....
Ming Campbell has given his life for his party and the country - he's beat cancer - and at the moment he might be thinking **what's it all about - have i actually made any difference in all these yrs**
The funny part is - Simon Hugh's has had his site on the top job since going into politics - i watched him on Newsnight when Ming resigned - and his body language was hilarious - *look i would make a good leader - please pick me* it was so obvious...
Politics eh! it's a dirty job but someones got to do it!!
Yeah it's one of the worst - a pretty thankless job..
and I'm not even a Lib Dem....

It would seem like it. Their poll numbers have actually gone down since the selection of Campbell as their leader. Now their party is in disarray now that he has resigned and they've done nothing to distinguish themselves from the other 2 leading parties..
(Some misinformed Americans mistook your question as a swipe at the Democratic Party of the US. Most here stateside have little grasp of British politics.)

No, it's one of the best jobs in the world, as long as your conscience doesn't get in the way. You get lots of political power, an uninquizative voter base that supports never ending tax increases and enjoys being dependant on your largesse, 98% of the media and entertainment industries at your beckon call, and the luxury of never having to answer for your wrongdoing. The only thing that could make it an uncomfortable job would be an opposition party that relentlessly confronted you with the truth, held your feet to the fire until you answered questions concerning your illegal activities and caused your own voter base to take a close and critical look at you for the first time.

Yes.
Amazingly difficult it is to know the truth, and watch millions of people devour lies as if they were big macs, and keep voting for the other side because it feels good and it comforts them to have their friends and enemies so clearly and simply defined (in absense of ANY reality thereof)

No. The leader only has to be a loud mouth liar. It's the blind deluded followers, too dumb to know the difference, that have the worst job.
