my gas tank on my 97 buick lesaber holds only 6 gas of gas what could be wrong with the tank?

the gage reader does'nt work either but when i'm running out it moves to the almost full line. (line next to full)

Maybe your gas gage is incorrect and your gas tank is already close to full?

The fuel level sending unit is not working properly.It is showing incorrect fuel level.You have to remove the gas tank to replace it.While you are at it it would'nt hurt to replace the fuel pump.Good luck,God Bless.

Either your guage is wrong or someone really dented-in the bottom of you tank by bottoming out your car.
