You just need to multiply both sides by 24:
5* 24 X* 24
-------- = -------
8 ...... 24
You can cross the 24 off both the numerator and the denominator on the X side. You can also reduce the 24 to a 3 and take the 8 off the demoninator on the left side. This leaves you with:
15 = X

I do believe that would be 15. I think you want to multiply 5/8 by 24/24 = 120/192 / 8/8 = 15/24
Slash mark between 120/192 and 8/8 indicates division.

x= 15
Here how isolate x ( move it to one side) and then solve for x
x= 5/8 by 24/1
Cross multiply: 24 divided by 8 is 3 and then 3 by 5 is 15
so x= 15.
check by putting 15/24 into lowest terms. 15/24* 3/3 = 5/8
Hope this helps

multiply both sides of the equation by 24. The 24s cancel out on the right side leaving only the 'x'. What's left is:
24 * 5/8 = x
You can do this on your calculator (or read one of the answers above for the correct number)
