It sounds like you may be intimidated by your teacher. You're going to have to find a way to work through that because that's the only way you're going to get the opportunity to do better work in class. Maybe you can find a monologue that has a girl standing up to her father and use your relationship with your teacher as inspiration.

good luck!

Typically, that is because you are questioning or doubting yourself. It may even be completely sub-conscientiously. The more you believe in yourself and just let go of your surroundings, the better you will get at it. I had the same problem in high school. I am a loud person, but would kind of withdraw when I had to perform in class. For me, it was that I was intimidated by some of my class mates or was scared I wasn't going to do a good job. If you just start focusing on the feelings of the scene and forget about the people watching you, it will become easier.

Also, a good exercise for both your vocalization and your acting overall is to rehearse the scene in different emotions. Figure out what your character is feeling. Maybe they are angry, but the anger is coming from the fact that they had their feelings hurt. Try and think of something in your life that makes you angry and something that makes you feel hurt. Then run the scene all the way through once completely and totally angry. Then again completely hurt. It will feel strange at first, but then you can put the two together and understand where your character is coming from. It really does help open you up to being genuine and real in the moment.

And, stop worrying about what your teacher is thinking. First, a teacher should NEVER tell a student that they shouldn't do something that they love. They should be supportive and help you grow. Stephen Spielberg was told by a professor in film school that he would never make it. Look at him now. And Second, you will figure it out. It may not be overnight, but the more you work at it, the more confident you will be.

I love drama!! It's great we are doin under milk wood at school any way!

I think you need to remember that every1 else in your class is in the same position. Be confodent :-) !! So what if u balls up. Just go for. If you enjoy it then be confodent. Another thing you don't have to have a lead role. Even if you have 1 line it still counts and make that 1 line amazing!!!!

I hope that helps. Compare to the other answers its rubbish (lol) but good luck next lesson!!! or should i say break a leg lol

It is one of two things: Either you really are not any good, or you are too hung up pschologically to be an actor. But I have a suggesstion for you: Think about what acting is. Acting is playing. It is fun. It is playing just the same way as small children play when they emulate adults. When ever we act, we should remember that it is playing and fun and no matter what the situation, class, audition, rehearsal or performance, it is the same thing, playing and fun. So, when the opportunity arises for you to be able to get up and play instead of sitting at your desk and behaving, love it, and relish it and jump to it with enthusiasm and energy. Break a leg, Doc

It always helps if you get to know the other students in the class so you have people to work with and talk to. It also helps with being nervous.
Probably the bet thing is to believe in your self.
