I know it sounds a little strange but my grandmother died recently and it was her middle name (she was Maltese). I just thought it might be something nice to remember her by.

The spelling is just how she spelt it although we'd probably spell it in a more simple way.

I know about the whole bible thing, but remember in Britain no-one has heard of the bible, and we'll be using a different spelling.

Oh, my! I wasn't aware the Bible hadn't yet reached Britain. Shame. :(

Contrary to your thinking, however, I'm fairly certain most have heard of Sodom and Gomorrah. And using a "simpler" misspelling only makes it worse, since then they'll assume you HAVEN'T, and just thought it sounded "pretty." ;)

It's a wonderful thing to want to honor someone you obviously loved and respected, but I'd likely do so by using her FIRST name, rather than one that's obviously problematic.

Gomorrah like the town in the bible that was distroyed? its not the most flattering name, but if its bible names your looking for that are a little different, than say esther or mary or something, you could try
Eden
or
Selah~ is the word found in the book of psalms(songs) some say that it referrs to music or musicians, others that its like a musical way that stresses the importance of things the Lord said because it comes after he speaks. either way its beautiful.
or
Jubilee~ i read a testimony once written by a young woman with that name, i thought it was really cute and different!

Gomorrah was a city in the Bible destroyed by God (along with the city of Sodom, which the English word "sodomy" comes from) for its sinfulness. That, and the fact that it sounds hideous, leads me ot say that NO, it is NOT a nice name for a girl.

an STD, a little harsh lol. I prefer the spelling Gomora, and I think it is pretty cute. What would she be called as a nick name though? No offense, but I think the name would be better suited for a pet or something just because it's not a very feminine name. Good luck, hope this helped!

No. It's nice that you want to honor your grandmother, but don't do it by sticking your child with a name that looks like an STD.

Not unless you have a son named Sodom and a really ususual sense of humor.

I'd also be looking into home schooling if I named a child that.

No! Don't name your child after a sinful city! But, of course, that's your prerogative. And I'm sorry about your grandmother. May she rest in peace.

To be perfectly honest it reminds me of gonorrhea which is an STD. Sorry but I'm sure you'll come up with something better!

At first glance it looked like gonorrhea. SO no I wouldn't name your child that no matter the significance
