The Fremont is fine as long as you are expecting a small, clean room and not a spectacular one.

No pool, you have to use the one at the California(closed now anyway)

I love the Fremont seafood buffet($15.99) on Sun/Tue/Fri IMO it's the best in LV for the money. Almost as good as the seafood buffet at Rio($36.99) at less than 1/2 the price

The Fremont regular buffet is okay, but I prefer the one at Main Street Station for lunch & dinner. IMO the lunch & dinner buffet at MSS is the best value buffet in LV.

For late night or early morning dining try the Market Street Cafe at the California, from 11p-9am they serve some of the best "graveyard" specials in LV.

If you're a shrimp lover the .99c shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate is a LV legend. It's been on the LVA's top ten list, every month for almost 25 years.

Best places to eat
Pullman Grill - MSS - Awesome restaurant!! Great food, great service, reasonable prices. >This restaurant was actually built around the Fireplace from Preswick Castle.

Triple 7 Brew Pub & Restaurant - MSS - $7 prime rib dinner after 4pm, the menu says 8oz, don't believe it, this is a large steak, and their baked potato is as good as any I have ever eaten - Don't order the large cut unless you're an NFL lineman or eat like one. $1 draws after midnight

Hugo's Cellar - Four Queens - Funny name, great restaurant.

Roberta's - El Cortez

Vic & Anthony's - Golden Nugget, upscale steakhouse.

If you gamble, sign up for and use the Fremont "Players Gold" slot club card. You just might get a comp out of the deal & or future offers on rooms. This card is good at the California & Main Street Station as well.

Best Gaming - downtown
video poker - MSS or El Cortez - The Four Quees has nickel 9/6 JOB - The Fremont does have quarter 9/6 JOB and it's one of the few casinos to have PKM Poker.

Blackjack - El Cortez(best in LV) 6 single deck, 3/2 games with low table minimum - next would be the Four Queens

There are several good places to play live poker DT you just have to find a room you're comfortable with - Binion's(14 tables) - Fitzgeralds(6) - Golden Nugget(10) - Plaza(10)
>If you're a poker fan, be sure to have a photo take at the "Wall of Fame" at Binion's

Craps - Check out the "Golden Arm" club at the California

Roulette - There is no single zero roulette downtown, the nearest would be the Stratosphere with 2 tables.

Sports Book - The Golden Nugget's is very nice. >Not quite the LV Hilton, but, it's a nice sports book.

Be sure to pick up a FSE coupon sheet for each of you - The FSE office is located at 425 Fremont Street, on the second floor of the parking garage next to Walgreens, show an out of state ID. $10 free play for both Binion's & Golden Nugget + 2-4-1 buffets for Main Street Station & Fremont, unfortunately they are not good for their seafood buffets. There are several more good coupons. Combine the Binion's FSE $10 free play with the one from "What's On" magazine for $20 in free play each.

I agree with the first poster. The Golden Nugget is the best hotel/casino in downtown Las Vegas. I don't live there, but have stayed there many times. You can't go wrong, clean and comfortable rooms, the casino isn't enormous and has a more "hometown" feel to it. Gaming is the same as you'll find anywhere and a bit more affordable if you know what I mean. Their pool area is not to be missed wither. Another plus is you're right in the middle of the Fremont Street Experience!
The Flamingo is also another well located hotel on the strip. Affordable and comfortable. You won't be disappointed staying there either.

I love the Golden Nugget. The best place to stay downtown. The Hotels downtown treat the guests so much better than the strip hotels do. The strip can get so crowded and the distance between hotels can be way too long. You might not get all the glitz downtown but the personal service much better over all. They work harder and I personally think the gaming is better too. If you are on a budget and just want a nice clean safe hotel to sleep in, check out the Fitzgerald, the Four Queens and The Horseshoe.

i havnt stayed but alot of people do. you can find a good deal on the strip in vegas. ex:imperial palace thats right in the middle of the strip. down town gambling is awsome. during the week is super cheap anywhere from $1-$5 is good. weekends cheapest ive seen was $3 and you can find a bunch of $5 tables and up from there. El cortez is a little dirty but super cheap. If you like that area i say go for it at one of the main palces on freemont street.

It's okay. The best hotel in Downtown is the Golden Nugget. You can find good deals at the other hotels. If you have any questions about Vegas, I live here.
