Industries consolidate when the industries become mature. Businesses have cycles. We hear about how great competition is but there are so many more monopolies nowadays. Conservatives don't care about anyone else but themselves. They are anti-people. They are everything they accuse liberals to be. All generalizations are incorrect. They don't really serve a purpose except to consolidate information, particularly complex information.
I bet you might be surprised to know that it's a lie when they say that we save money by having manufacturing overseas. Corporations keep the profits for themselves! They pass on a miniscule savings to people. It is not to our benefit. Bush is a liar and a manipulator. What troubles me is that the number of foreign owned corporations and foreign owned debt of the US is growing. What is going to happen in the future? The babyboomers who are largely in charge now are the greediest and most vile generation ever. They are doing so much damage to everything that many generations after are going to be paying for. That's why I am upset. It's hard to let it go because it's not only going to affect my generation but many generations. They are not (as a group) happy people. People are not happy with lots of money or things. It's a myth and a total lie. Money and material things bring short-term happiness if happiness at all. We find happiness and contentment through connections with other people and by doing good things. Myanmar is in serious trouble and it's our fault essentially. We are losing species. Global warming is a natural event but we are speeding up the event. People all over have to wake up and start questioning what they think they know. I'm trying to do that. Please join me.

Funny you should mention that because I'm studying cable company monopolies as part of my job. It's difficult to prove cable company monopolies because it's never been the national government involved, but rather scattered collectives of local governments. It's difficult to prove any conspiracy in that regard. As far as the price goes, it's not Comcast's fault entirely. They purchase packages from networks that force them to carry X channels for Y price, and these networks keep on raising their prices and adding crappy channels to their packages to justify it. If you want ESPN networks on your service, you might have to keep taking on additional shopping, cooking or other channels that get less attention. They'll keep adding on the price, but if you do away with ESPN people would switch service. Companies like Comcast are not the entire providers of internet service either, they purchase faster service to connect them to the internet to connect you to it. Guess what, their providers raise price, and so must Comcast. All in all, Comcast sees a smidgen of the profits when it raises prices.

Did you notice that the price of crude oil also went up in the 90's? In fact, it has been going up steadily for a long time. If the cost of raw materials goes up then the cost of the final product will also go up. That is very simple economics. It is not due to monopolies.

They want to keep their rich friends richer and they don't care about everyone else. Same reason our president made it so that Canadian pharmaceutical companies can't compete with American ones.

Edit: Chavez and Bush are kind of alike in many ways.
