What is the best way to remove a wallpaper border? There is a hidious border on the masterbedroom/bathroom that will have to go before we move in, but it's a rental so I can't mess with the paint under the wallpaper...any help?

the "landlord" is my mother in law and the paper border was there before she bought the house about three years ago..and the previous owners build it, so I'm not sure how long it's been there. My mother in law is all about investing her $$ so I don't think she'll mind me taking it off as long as that doesn't mean having to re-paint.

Use hot water mixed with vinegar 50/50.....Spray on wallpaper border and let it sit for 10mins or so... It should just peel off... You can also use cheap liquid fabric softner mixed with hot water.. If glue is left behind you can use the above solution and let it sit till it gets soft and wipe away with a damp sponge...

I just removed a border this way ,peel the paper off and all you need to do is wet the remaining paper ,I used a spray bottle with warm water, with a scraper it will come off easily . It's not that bad! The only thing that I am worried is how long that border was on the wall for? because if it's old the paint that is under it will not have faded away like the rest of the wall and you will have a stripe on the wall instead of the border. So in that case I would begin in a hidden spot and see what it looks like !

Mix liquid fabric softener & water in a squirt bottle. Mist the paper, let it set a bit and it should peel right off. Works great. You may have to play with the ratio & the wait time a few times depending on the age of the border & the adhesive that was used.

Go to the hire centre for a wallpaper steamer. Check with the landlord, if you can't mess up the paintwork, you may not be allowed to mess with the paper

Use a wet sponge to loosen the old paste. It should peel off in sections. Cover it with a border of your choice.
