I want to create a webpage for classmates to post things about a certain class on. Like a forum really, however I want it to have components that I control like calendars or links, etc. Is there a good FREE hosting site that is great? (I'm decent with HTML.)

One decent method for your description (and, even without html knowledge, I might add) would be to fetch yourself a gmail account and set up a new "Google Group". You can define the Group in such a way that you have a "Start Page", invite specific people to join (and ONLY those people may participate and even know that the page exists), share a calendar and other content. All this stuff is completely free. Check it out.

As far as I know, there are not any publicly available free hosting services that will meet your needs.

However, if you plan to use the site for your school, you might be able to convince your network administrator to give you space on their network. Talk to network admins, teachers, principals, etc. Try to convince them that your site will enhance your own academic growth as well as benefiting the school as a learning environment and technically progressive institution.

You will also need to learn dynamic programming languages and techniques. I suggest you start learning PHP and find some open source message boards code to base your project on.

If you have an yahoo E mail Id , you automatically get free web page in geocities , you can maintain yourself your webpage as you seem to have pretty knowledge of HTML , which is the only needed skill !!
If your YahooMail ID is greatfriend@yahoo.com , you get the free page www.geocities.com/greatfriend as your page.
I am using it for several years !!
