I assume you're asking when you call 911 for an ambulance, why does the FD show up too? Most of the time the FD can get to an address quicker due to location and most FDs have EMTs & Medics on staff. It's all about the customer service. Get to the person who needs the care as quickly and safely as possible. Also, you never know when you'll need additional help, like for a cardiac arrest, or serious trama and an ambulance only carries two people while a fire truck carries 3-5. Hope this helps.

well, they dispatch the fd first responders so they might be able to get there before the ambulance does, and they are able to render the first care... if it is a wreck, there is a need for the firetrucks in case a car catches fire or if a helicopter lands, but crashes..... also, you never know when the people on the ambulance will need help with lifting and such....

You forgot about the police....sometimes situations aren't always as they seem. Accidents aren't really accidents afterall.....car accidents require extraction and Fire has the jaws of life as well as equipment to clear away debris......911 hang-ups may turn out to be really serious violent domestic situations.
911 connects to all three emergency services.
