is it 100 percent his own fault? or do you think the society also takes the blame for producing a deviant person?

According to Shrillary Clinton, "it takes a village." So, by her way of thinking, there is no personal responsibility. I happen to believe that there IS a thread of truth to the thought that we ARE indeed a product of our environment, I believe also that as adults we need to grow up and let the environment become a product of us-- that we need to take responsibility for our actions, we possess the uncanny ability to learn and grow. How's that for riding the fence?!

People are responsible for themselves. There are people who came from terrible backgrounds who went on to wonderful success. It is the parents who help create the person their child grows into, and they are responsible to a degree, but not society as a whole, in my opinion.

That would be like saying this:

Jane grew up spoiled. She was used to getting whatever she wanted. When she got her first job after college, she was making a lower wage than she anticipated, and was unable to support herself in the manner that she was used to. She couldn't afford expensive clothing any more, so she went to an expensive store and tried ship-lifting some expensive apparel.

Whose fault is it? HER OWN, and her parents for making her so spoiled. Society is not responsible. It does not take a village, it takes a family.

Unfortunately, that is what the criminals want you to believe... it is not their fault. And as long as they believe it, there will always be repeat offenders.

Even if you grew up in a broken home, you are still capable of determining right from wrong, and any decision you make is a conscious one.

Granted, we all make mistakes, but if society is guilty of anything, it is for being lenient on repeat offenders.

"Blame Society" is smoke filled, coffee house CRAP.

I'm also sick of "be lenient, I was abused" or other excuses. You knew right from wrong, you did wrong, the end. If we're going to accept excuses, everyone needs to submit a life resume and apply for their sentencing credit in advance: "Okay, Mr. Jenkins, you were abused throughout your childhood and your parents were drug users. You get 7 years sentencing credit toward any crimes you commit. Have a nice day."

If a person commits an act that he knows to be wrong, did society commit that act?
No, the criminal committed that act and it is the criminal's place to take responsibility for it.
Society's responsiblilty is then to determine JUST punishment for said criminal.

None.

It's called Personal Responsibility. Each person is responsible for making their own decisions, therefore must accept that there are consequences (good or bad) for all decisions.

Everyone makes their own decisions. I cant stand when people screw up and then say "well my parent were horrible, etc etc" People need to take responsibility for their own actions!

It's 100% the criminals fault. if the fault could be placed on society then EVERYONE that was in the criminals situation would be criminals.
