there was a check deposited for $180.00 which is from my ex for child support but it says "RETURN ITEM CHARGEBACK " next to it and it deducted the amount from my account. What is going on here? Last week my ex and I had an argument where the b*stard pulled a gun on my bf and smashed my mom's tail light...could he have had something to do with this?

It means the check bounced, usually due to insufficient funds in the account on which the check is written (his account), possibly due to a stop payment order or a closed account. Ordinarily, I would suggest asking him for a new check or for cash. However, considering the possibility that he may respond violently, it might be safer to contact the child support enforcement authorities and have them deal with him.

It sounds like he writes personal checks that go to your account and that his check did not clear OR he put a "stop payment" on it. Here's a good reason to go through the clerk for payments. You wait a little longer but you don't have to worry about that.
He sounds realy "sweet" -- just kidding...

It means that the check was returned to your bank by his bank- they took the money from your account because either he placed a stop payment ot he had insufficient funds.

It means he didn't have the $180 in his account and the check bounced.

It amazes me that people cannot figure out things for themselves. Of course it has to do with your ex. The check your ex gave you was returned for lack of payment.

He stopped pmt on the check. Go to court and garnish his wages to gety paid and get a restraining order to keep him away from you and your family.

do you get your check directly from him or does he pay the court then they pay you? Talk to your bank by phone and ask what exactly happened.
