I think it's toss up. If you each fast food, but at least do some exercise afterward, it's not too bad. However, even if you eat a low cal mean, but sit your backside on the sofa for marathon tv, you are going to gain.

Cheap fast food so easy to get. Being lazy & then watching tv. The break down of the American family. Their is barely time for home cooked family dinners or no one wants to eat them. All starts from the time your in elementary school into your teens. You want to eat what your friends. Not everyone has the same body type and can handle the same foods and activity level or lack of.
Fast food is so easy to get and cheaper then cooking at home sometimes that Americans (I use to too be included) don't take the time to go home and cook.
If your watching lots of television you don't have time for anything else. But you shouldn't have to exercise any more then an hour a day unless your eatting a lot of calories.
I would say more of the food then the TV because you can always change what you eat to lose weight. With 1 hour of exercise a day. You can usually get back into shape.
But if your eatting all fast food but not watching a lot of television I don't think you'll have the stamina to workout because of the crap your putting into your body.

Fast food is half the contribution but a person can insert any # of other items of a sedentary lifestyle in place of watching lots of television: sitting at the computer for hours, w/out getting up or playing video games too.

Parents control how much time their kids spend in front of the tv. If mom and dad put put the tv off limits for a few hours a day and did not use it as a babysitter, kids would be less exposed to advertising of all types. Mom and Dad should set the limits on how much fast food the family eats, no matter how badly the child wants it. Not giving in to a screaming child takes practice and patience, but eventually the kid realizes that mom or dad will hold the line, and the flareups will happen less.

Watching lots of television. If you eat fast food and get exercise you would be fine. Eat normal food and watch lots of TV you'll become a cow.

Lack of physical activity and too many calories from foods of the wrong kind help with obesity. So yes, fast food and/or TV are, well, not the best friends of the healthy person ;-)

I would say watching lots of television, because it promotes inactivity. I think that I eat more fast food that most people in their thirties do, but I exercise, so I have (so far) avoided becoming overweight.

Lack of exercise, if you are watching television you are not exercising and that includes watching television while exercising at the gym or home. Proper technique while exercising is paramount and it needs your undivided attention. Exercise is the key to a healthy body.
