Why would your best friend be the enemy in the war? Surly your best friend is the person you have as a soul mate? The one person you trust more than any other? The one you share your beliefs, ideas and thoughts with? You tend to find your best friend is someone with similar opinions to your own. So why would you be on opposite sides?
My answer is NO. I wouldn't kill anyone. War or no war. I don't see people as my enemy. All people are humans, we are all people. All the same. There are far more similarities than difference between people.
Besides, your question makes no sense, your best friend woundn't be your best friend if they were the enemy. That is a contradiction in terms.

Men are put in terrible situations in war, but one of the worst was the civil war. Brothers were on oppisite sides, and some met each other while fighting. Which way it went depended on both of them.
War is at once the most terrible nightmare that the human brain can conceive of, and the canvas of heroism and strength beyond imagining.

Never. I could never see any friend as an enemy, and I would not kill my enemy either, just avoid them. And I don't believe in wars.
Let the country leaders go to fight, either Sumo style or boxing.
Leave us alone to live our lives peacefully.
Friends are hard to find, and a Best Friend should be cherished, never killed!

If they were forced, heavens no. I couldn't kill anyone, let alon my best friend. It is the most terrible thing in the world to take human life. I don't care if the would do it to me. They might have to.

Most definitely yes. I would not hesitate to do so. Even the best of friends can disagree on philosophical terms. If my best friend chose to take an opposing view to the one I hold, I would respect that difference. I would aslo respect the integrity of my friend for being willing to make a stand and defend that point of view. I would hope that my best friend would also have the same respect for my standpoint as well.
Once on the battlefield, our friendship is not at isssue, we are combatants in a military situation and as such, I would not hesitate to carry out my agenda as it relates to my cause.
People of conscience have to face moral and ethical dilemmas such as this on a lesser scale every day. Two friends from college become CEO's of competing companies, or are competing for the same job.
It is easy to say that you couldn't kill your best friend in a combat situation., and I agree that personal feelings would arise in that situation. But a person of integrity has a greater responsibility to pursue a course of honorable character and honest moral fiber. To acquiesce to personal feelings in the pursuit of what you believe is right is less that Honorable in my opinion.
