The only reason I could see them saying this is that they tend to "stress you out" while you're watching - you get involved and feel a little anxiety/fright...and stress hormones aren't good for the baby. But that being said I think that's a bit of a stretch and I really wouldn't worry about it. I think any type of movie is just fine for mother and baby. I wouldn't let the BABY watch a horror movie on the other hand after it's born....

RE:
Can you watch horror films while pregnant?
My wife is 26 weeks pregnant. I heard that she shouldn't watch any scary or horror films. That sounds about right, but I wanted to ask the experts....what do you all think?

It's all baloney. I think some people have become neurotic (yes, I've seen studies that claim all sorts of things). She can watch them just fine. I wouldn't bring a baby to a horror movie though. The screams are too much generally for them.

I would say no...only because when you are pregant your dream all the time and the dreams are usally very weird. You don't want her to have nightmares.
Other then that, I don't see why not.
EDIT: I watched horror movies when I was pregnant, my husband is a horror critic, (www.horrorreview.com) and I did have very strange dreams.

I don't see why not. I went to a haunted house when I was like 16wks or so pregnant with my first child and everything was fine.
I THINK if you've heard anything to this effect it might be more aimed at like when your wife is farther along in the pregnancy like ready to pop and that a "good scare" might send her labor into action early.
But I would think you are fine, and that it is only an old wives tale.
Good Luck.

Well, I don't see why she shouldn't or couldn't. I mean, me personally-I hate scary movies anyways. I'm scared of my own shadow! But as far as being pregnant-this has nothing to do with pregnancy. Unless she has some rare side-effect that she get's so scared it causes her to have seizures or something-than yes, definately NOT WATCH THEM! I'm 28 weeks pregnant, and have watched scary movies even though I don't like them. :-) Hope this helps!

I don't think there's a problem with your wife watching horror films.
