or who have worked for retail? I was one of them, and I was a happy go lucky person with a great personality, UNTIL I witnessed customers who told me to throw away their child's soiled diaper, a woman who wanted to return her pants back that she was wearing, a woman who was the devil who started yelling at me saying she didn't like my crucifix pendant and though I was good, and customers who threw clothing all over the racks after I cleaned it up. As a result, when I shop I never acknoledge people, when in a mall I look straight at clothes at not people. It has burned and scarred me for life, I would say. As a result, I would never want my children working for retail because of the animals out there. Few good ones, but the stress from the animal customers who want MORE!! Your thoughts.

Scuba, that's sad about the bathroom. The cleaning lady will have to suffer for that NOT the CEO of the company who should.

Leah, Yes, I also worked for credit card services for late payments or no payments. Yes, the freaks you get because they don't see you, but we WRITE everything they say or did on the phone at call center.

customers treat Retail staff just like the employers do.... Part time min wage SLAVE JOBS! I find it is those High paid well off people who make the worst customers as the rest of us are below them . I used to waitress and found out...I will never treat retail staff or waitresses like I have been. I recently was Angry because a girl was working in a cell phone store here.... she was the only one on that day.... didn't know all the "tricks to all this new fangled stuff", a big line up and didn't even know how to take a battery out of the cell phone! I was not Angry at her however... I was pissed with the management because it is not her fault she was not trained properly! I went back the next day to talk to Management to find out this poor girl had only 4 part time shifts prior to this day and then left to run the store alone! I too was forced to run another store alone with no real training as well....I know how awful she must of felt....I am sure she felt pretty stupid and ready to die!

I have worked in retail and/or the restaurant biz my whole life. It sucks. If I had to choose I would work in a restaurant over retail though. There, at least, you have some control. I have never spit in anyone's food, but it comforts me to know that I could if they pissed me off badly enough. Oh, and the bathrooms in retail stores are the nastiest places in the world! They are worse than any gas station you might run into while traveling! NEVER EVER EVER sit down in a bathroom in a retail store!!!!!!!

Well my first job wasn't so bad. My co-workers and managers were pretty nice. What made me really want to break some necks were the customers I encountered. I worked as the fitting room clerk at a certain discount store (Not Wal-Mart) and my job required me to count the items a customer wanted to try on, it was store policy. The fact that people got pissed off just because they had to hang the items the wanted to try on for maybe twenty seconds really made me want to smack these people upside the head. It was possibly the pettiest thing people would get pissed off about.

Everyone I dealt with was angry and impatient before they ever got to the front of the line, and probably before they walked in the store. It's not like anyone is in the line to tell you how great the store is - they are there b/c there is a problem. And you deal w/ the same thing over and over and over again, and I don't know that there is much room for moving up in the company unless you excel at it.

Welcome to the service industry. If you think working for retail was bad try working at a call center. People can't see you so they feel they can say anything they want to you. I have been told to kill myself more than once in more than one way. I have been called every name you can think of. I have been told to kill my children, jump off a cliff, I have had death threats. All this because the customer can't see me. I no longer work there.

Ughhh. I worked in retail as a manager for over 10 years. I don't anymore. If you really want to see the filth side of humanity, work in retail. The theft, vandalism, bitching and rudeness of customers would SHOCK you.
In my ten years in retail, I had over 15 customers arrested for attempted theft or theft. I had a customer spit on me because I would not take their expired coupon. I had a disgruntled customer poop in the urinal in the mens room and another go directly on the floor instead of the toilet.

Human beings are disgusting creatures...and we complain about rats, mice and roaches?

Needless to say, I do not work in retail anymore.

Sweety, everyone in retail hates it! It is the nature of the beast! Nobody gets paid enough either!
