This morning I missed my english class for the third time this semsester. I e-mailed her saying I was sick, but I did not go to the doctor, and she says If I have a note I'll be fine. Am I screwed? I'm absolutely freaking out! What can I do? Help!

Also, I live away at school and my primary doctor is not here, so how does one aquire a doctor's note?

Unless the professor specified this at the beginning of the semester and absent a college/university rule that specifically addresses this issue, you may need to involve the dean of the college the prof is in and the dean of students.

You may wish to remind the prof that YOU are paying tuition, she is not paying you to attend her class. The ultimate penalty would be if you miss so much class room time that you don't get what you're paying for and fail the exam on the basis of exams and the final.

pssst....English profs read YahooAnswers too.

If you were my student, I'd rather you didn't lie to me. If your performance in the class thus far had not been very enthusiastic, I'd probably drop you, whereas if you'd participated in class discussion a lot, done good work, and completed all the assignments on time, you'd probably get some slack.

Please keep in mind that some schools have attendance policies to which profs must adhere. There may not be anything she can do for you. But do ask--make an appointment to see her during office hours and plead your case (DON'T take up class time with this). Proving you care often cuts a lot of ice with profs.

3rd time this semester and you've only been in class what? 5 weeks maybe?

on average, you probably meet twice a week. so you've missed 30% of your classes. and with english lit a majority of it is in-class work (not like math and science where you can just get by by reading the text).

if you can't get the doctor's note, you could always try sincerity and the truth. if you think you can go the rest of the way without missing a class, try to make a deal with your prof. "if i miss another class, drop me without further ado. i realised i f-ed up" furthermore, should this work, try to show some initiative. answer more in class and perhaps try to talk to your teacher afterwards about the work you're doing, etc.

I'm in a kinda similar situation, concerning needing a doctor's note to prove my absence was real for class. I was told to go to my doctor and explain the situation and most likely I will get a note. I suggest doing the same.

If you were sick...get the note.

If you weren't sick, face the music and come clean.

Right now your credibility with the prof is non-existant. However, unless there is a blurb in the Uni's or College's rules/regs about the profs having the ability to bar you from attending the classes for non-attendnace, she can't drop you.

Incidentally...99%+ of ALL faculties in all Universities DON'T CARE IF YOU ATTEND...only if you pay.

Don't rely just on e-mailing the professor. Go in and talk to her, tell her the circumstances, and that is your best bet. Often times, professors will cut you some slack if you actually go in and have a face-to-face conversation. Buttering her up by telling her that you really enjoy the class (use examples of readings/assignments you liked) couldn't hurt either.

Go see a doctor, a migraine or non specific vomiting are good ploys.

However with that said, don't cut class is the best way to not get in the S**t, after all you are only hurting your own future cutting classes.

There should be a doctor at a health and welness center at your school. If not, report your school! But seriously, you should see the doctor there and then explain your situation.

Go to the doctor and then get you butt to class from now on. If you're not paying for school, you should be - then maybe you'd go.

I agree with Sam..go to your doctor and explain that you were sick one day and that your professor needs an excuse for it.
