I would go with at least 8 weeks. It will take you 6 weeks to feel almost "normal" again.
But if you are like me, you will end up not going back!

I would "love" to get 12 or 8 weeks, but I'm in the military and we are allowed 6 weeks. I am going to try and work right up until the day I have the baby that way I can take advantage of every day I have off. Good luck!

That's entirely up to you, but FMLA allows you to keep your job for up to 12 weeks of absence. It may be unpaid, but that's the max you can take. If your work doesn't pay your maternity leave, you can get short-term disability from your medical insurance provider.
If I could afford it, I would take the full 12 weeks. My husband and I can't afford our 2 car payments and mortgage payment with just his salary for 3 months, though! Most people take as much as they are financially able to.

Wow, I am surprised by these answers, I would go crazy if I could only have a few weeks off. Here in Canada, you get 1 year paid leave to spend with your baby. Take the max time allowed if you can, Baby needs you.

I think the "standard" is 8 weeks. Most daycares won't take a baby until they're 6 weeks old, so if you leave before you actually have your baby, he/she won't be old enough to go to daycare if you take much less then 8 weeks.
I would of course take as much time as your job and financial situation will allow!!

At least 12 weeks but go for a year. It of course depends on your situation. I started working from home so I could stay home with my daughter.

Take as much time as you need off :) I think you get four or six weeks before your due date and six weeks after you deliver, you can get an additional six weeks in the state of california.
