Zero.

If everyone in the division ties against each other, and loses inter-division games, you could have a team at the top with a
0-6-10 record

P.S. Someone said they could go 0-0-16, but that's not possible, as that would mean they lost all of their intra-division games, and those teams would be above them, and they wouldn't make the playoffs.

Theoretically, since a team that wins its division automatically qualifies, a team would only need to win more of its games against its three division rivals, which would be 4 out of 6, or it could win 3 and lose 3 but beat out a division rival it is tied with by a tiebreaker. Assuming all teams in the division lost every game outside its division, the division winner could make the playoffs, in theory, with a record of 3-13.

That depends on how bad the division is. This year an NFC team will probably make the playoffs with an 8-8 record - though a team could make it in with 7 wins.

There is no number, if a division stinks..like the AFC West, who ever has the best record will make the playoffs...If the Broncos finish 6-10 and everyone else finishes 5-11 the broncos will make the playoffs.

theoretically, zero

if every team in the division was to tie every single game, I believe the first tiebreaker would be total points scored.

while I'm not sure on the first tiebreaker, I'm pretty positive that theoretically, a team could win zero games and make the playoffs

good job Marty (even though you beat me to it)
-they could go 0-0-16

unless they have come up with an overtime tie breaker, its zero. its highly unlikely however, for any team to have one tie, let alone them and their division having a season full of ties.

in today's NFL, its probably 10. but your division would have to be extradinarily weak.

the most likely divison that this may occur in would probably be the NFC South. So far they are all playing like garbage.

teams have gone into the playoffs with a losing record like 7-9 before but now days you have to win at least 8 or 9 games to get in
