To heal, or stop hurting? For the bone to heal (fuse back together) takes about 6 weeks. However, there are several factors that effect that, health status, diet, smoking, etc.

The rib should stop hurting in a week or so. Less if you keep it stabalized with an ACE wrap bandage. Until it completely heals, you will most likely get some discomfort whenever you bump it or move the "wrong" way.

Did you know that ribs "never" actually heel? The discomfort may last for a few months depending on the severity but,,,,that's as good as it can get.
