Check the regulator it will be located where the gas line connects to the stove. It will be square or rectangular in shape with a plug /nut in the center[it may have a plastic cap on it]If it has a cap remove it and check to see if it is marked with a P or an N.It may say Propane or natural. If it is not marked it will be hollow on one side and there will be a small post on the other side, for Propane the post goes in.This is usually the cause for black bottomed pans.Stoves come from the factory set up for natural gas and need to be converted for Propane people not experienced with this often change or adjust the orifices and miss this part of the conversion.

If you are on a propane system and the stove came from the store set up as natural gas, which is the normal configuration, the propane conversion kit is ussually bagged and taped at the back of the stove. If you are on propane and the natural gas orfices are installed, you will have one hell of a tall flame on high. It's pretty easy to spot as the orfices for natural gas are much larger than propane.

Another thing to take into account is if your home is at a high elevation >2000 feet then your appliance will require de-rating. Call a gas contractor to check it out.

Propane and Natural Gas appliances are not interchangeable. The fuels have different burn rates, require different regulators and different sized burn holes.

You'll have to find a conversion kit to switch from one to the other. I'm also not sure how safe it is to use propane in a natural gas appliance.

You need to adjust the flame. Call someone and ask how you can adjust this. Sometimes you can do it yourself. Ask your propane dealer, they might be able to help you.
