I have the Mirena IUD. The IUD is a good contraceptive for some women but not for others. Each person's body will react differently to it. I have not had children so insertion was extremely painful and my cramps each month are worse than they ever were before.

It usually takes 3 months for your body to get used to the device. I am past the 3 month mark and have developed ovarian cysts. Often the cysts will disappear on their own.

If you have already had children I would def recommend it. Insertion will probably not be that painful and side effects may not be as severe. Also up to 20% of women's periods stop all together on the Mirena.

If you have not had children I can't really say whether I recommend it or not. I have had a lot of trouble with mine and am trying to wait 6 months before I decide whether it needs to be removed. It may work out well for you though and you may have no side effects at all.

If your insurance will cover the cost and you are not scared about the potential side effects then go for it!

Hope this helped!

My mom had a ten year IUD, and she still got pregnant. They had to take it out, so that my little sister would be ok.
