He provided a lot of great memories for Clevelanders when he played for the Tribe. Just because he accepted a better job offer isn't any reason to hate the guy. In fact, most Clevelanders probably wouldn't mind having him back. The Sox fans cheered for Trot Nixon the other night, even though he now plays for the Indians. Why can't Clevelanders do the same?

Trot Nixon was not resigned by the Red Sox. Manny Ramirez chose to leave for the big market big bucks team. Jim Thome gets booed for the same reasons. But players that Cleveland did not re-sign or traded, get cheered by Indians fans when they come to Cleveland. Ramirez and Thome strung the Indians and their fans along, basically they lied. If a player wants to leave, fine, but don't lie to the fans who supported you for years as you came up through the ranks of the parent club. Additonally, Trot Nixon helped the Red Sox to win the 2004 World Series. Manny Ramirez did not help the Indians bring the ring home though he was on those teams. You cannot compare the two. Trot was a loyal Red Sox player cut loose when the Sox organization felt he was no longer an asset to them. Manny left with $$$$ in his eyes. Would Paul Revere cheer for Benedict Arnold?

Because Manny left for strictly financial reasons. He got a mega contract from the Sox following the 2000 season, and there was no way financially the Indians could afford it. That is why he is booed.

Trot was cheered for in Boston because he was released because he no longer fit in the teams plans. They signed J.D. Drew to play right field, and no longer had a need for Trot. After he signed with the Indians, it never bothered Boston fans because they had the utmost respect for a player that had given 110% all the time while he had played in Boston, something Manny never did in Cleveland.

Part of the reason they boo Manny is because while he played for Cleveland he usually seemed to be dogging it defensively and generally had a selfish attitude instead of a team attitude. He'd half-heartedly lope to get an outfield hit, rarely ran out grounders, etc.... The fans of a blue collar Cleveland hated to see such a highly paid layer put forth such a lackluster effort. That's why I boo him!

I don't boo Manny. They talked about this on the radio last night, and I am not mad at Manny, he did give us a lot of good memories & I would love to have Manny back on the team. I don't remember him saying he was going to stay in Cleveland forever, now Jim Thome, is another story...

Because he's good, and used to play for the Indians. Indians can't pay out as much as Sox or Yankees because they're a small time charlie market, so he left for more money. Most athletes usually do go to the highest bidder.

Yeah. I agree. St. Louis Cardinal fans aren't like that and they're the best fans in baseball. A little appreciation, puh-lease! You know, I taught my daughter to applaud good effort on the part of the 'other' team as a show of good sportsmanship. I can understand their booing when he hurts the Indians, but a little sportsmanship when he just comes up to hit. People are such twits. Here on Y/A they display the very worst sportsmanship. I sure hope some parents some where are trying to teach their kids right.

It's a really simple answer. The Dodgers are the opposing team. What do you expect the Padres fans to cheer everyone on? They're not going to do that. Fans are going to boo other team's players just to let you know.
