In most countries in Europe all people must have an ID at all times. Tourists even more so, they need to have their passport on them at all times. (I wonder if the people making the rules ever go to the beach to swim?)
So claiming that you have left it at the hotel is not a wise decision.
How old are you? If you are 18 or over you will not have problems, if you are 16 to 18 you can get in and get drinks in some countries but not in others, if you are not yet 16 you should not even try, you are too young.

(By the way, in the USA you would need to be 21 and be able to proof it. So 16/18 is not too bad.)

it depends a lot on which country you will be in as some are stricter than others. if you are over 18 you wont have a problem, if you are 16 but look way older you wont have a problem, however if you are of age and look younger you will be asked for ID. Most everyone in Europe has an ID card which they always carry with them, so some form of ID is going to be expected to be shown so be prepared. I live in Europe now so this has come to be the norm for me
