American History X is just an after school special and has nothing to do with the actual skinhead scene. I'd suggest This Is England.

American History X with Edward Norton, for a more "personal" story about a particular family.
Romper Stomper with Russell Crowe for a "bigger" story about a gang of skinheads.

Romper Stomper. Suburbia has some in it. So does Repo Man. I am waiting for This is Englan to come out on DVD. It might still be in the theaters in your area. I heard that's a good one.

I thought American History X was great, but a bit too much advertising.. The Believer was around the same time period I believe, but was more of an Indie..
