Would you agree that you think every question is being asked from your own perspective?

Maybe we should check out where the asker is before we give out information. One I see a lot is regarding the age of consent.

It's 16 here (UK) and younger in other places. I worry when I see youngsters being told they face jail for having sex with a 16 year old.

And I'm surprised too. I seem to recall us giving Jerry Lee Lewis a hard time because his wife was 13.

But I digress. I think before we give out what we think are facts we need to take into account that facts are different in different places. :)

No I'm not tehabwa, I'm asking a question albeit with a prefix. :)

I think it behoves us well to remember that for example the age of consent is not 18 everywhere when we blithely say so. I for example would not say that it's 16 because I know the asker might not be in the UK.

Your point is well taken, being honest with oneself leads me to think your observation is correct as well. Will take it under advisement and thank-you for an insight into our outward persona. ;0) have a great day !

I don't think we assume every question is being asked regarding the US, but I do think most people answer questions drawing from their own unique perspective..... As a US citizen, of course I'm going to answer a question from that perspective....if I lived in the UK, and were asked a generalized question, I'd probably answer that same question based on the social/cultural/etc. habits of that area.......

I do agree with you that at times we do need to identify the nationality of the asker, or things can get confusing....some questions transcend locale, but many are specific to an area's laws, cultures, societal norms, etc.

It's up to the people asking the question to say where they're from, when relevant.

There is no way of determining the location of a participant, so I don't know what you have in mind when you say "we should check out where the asker is before we give out information."

BTW, you need to read the Guidelines for this site; you're violating them with this statement posing as a question.

Jerry Lee did marry a 13 yr old...she was also his cousin...main reason he got so much crap about that relationship. Age of consent in the States is 18.

I check the "show USA questions only" simply because I know that I don't have the frame of reference for international questions. I assume that only USA questions will appear; however, your question appeared in the list, so maybe checking USA specific questions only isn't effective.
At any rate, I had never considered this question, but I'm sure it would be helpful if the person posting would specify their location. When I have posted questions in which location matters (even in the USA), I try to note that I'm inquiring about Texas, for instance.

I'll agree to say where I am if everyone else does. The questioner if quite right. You yanks do assume it's always about you. And Dust, you might like to know son, that without the UK there wouldn't even be a World Wide Web for you to issue that kind of insult.

I don't understand why the asker wouldn't specify that he/she is from the UK when asking a specific question. It's actually really simple.

It would be helpful if the asker, especially of serious questions, would give that kind of information.

It is difficult to check every questioner's profile, but you do have a point.
