I know it's a weird question, but I am trying to get rid of some stuff but at the same time make some money. Consignment shop will either strait buy out your stuff as soon as u walk in or they will wait and pay u 50/50 when it sells. So, I was just wondering if anyone knew which way would pay more? Thanks for any help u may have!

Being in business is about risk and value. If it's of value to you to not have to take the time and expenses (risk) to sell the items yourself then utilize a consignment shop to do it for you (transference of risk).

It's difficult to know which would pay more as I think it will be different for each item you want to sell. I would think that the consignment shop would ask themselves the same question. Items that would potentially gain more profit while minimizing the risk to them of selling the item will be things that they will probably buy outright. The other items that have a high risk of selling, the consignment shop will probably pass the risk to you on a 50/50 deal.

I'm willing to bet that if you took a good, objective, look at the things you are wanting to sell you will be able to determine with some relative accuracy what they will buy outright and what they will 50/50 sell for you.

It can't hurt to take the things up to them and see. Then make a decision if the effort and risk to you is better if you sold them via garage sell or other means.

Good Luck!!!

If you've got the time to wait, the consignment may be the way to go, but if they don't sell it, it'll be returned to you with all that added wear and tear from handling.

Me, I'd prefer just to sell it outright and be done with the whole thing.

It all depends, my wife used to make baby blankets and the shop gave her $25.00 for each one. We found out later they were selling them for $90.00. But we found out by accident because the lady always came to our house to pick them up.
