I do both. I support 4 girls in another country going to school and 12 with their educations here. I think we need to love beyond borders

Oh! what a wonderful inner fulfillment you get when you give. I'm quite sure you help children around you, but it's so great to be able to sponsor a child from these horrific places they are living in. Anyone that has never done it-does not know what great feelings you get when you can.
My Girls In Action do this all the time and now they have adopted a Soldier. There are Soldiers that never receive any mail at mail call time, and it's so sad to never get your name called out. Man these little girls have gone wild over sending our Soldier letters and we send him care packages every month. You are doing a wonderful thing. God Bless You and for not being a selfish person so willing to give to these poor children.
Oh! my response to that person that said anything about it, is they are just pure selfish and they don't know what they are even saying, it's A Good Case Of Pure Ignorance.

People are people. Why should it matter what country they live in? Well, besides the fact that in Ethiopia there is always the ability for children to go dumpter diving, a vast amount of natural resources, a great self-sustaining economy with an over-abundance of goods that are available from any place within the country itself, a 7-11 at every corner, and countless shelters and government programs to help the children in Ethiopia. I'm being ironic, of course.

I thought about that when I was answering your original question. The one difference is very clear to me. Kids (and parents) in 3rd world country's don't always have access to health care and programs that the US has. Even if they wanted to better themselves (and many do) they can't. Many people in the US that are 'needy' at least have their basic needs met.
Last year we went to the Dominican Republic and rented a Jeep and drove away from the tourist areas. The poverty was horrible. All I could think is how before we left my son was mad because he wanted a 100 dollar computer game I wouldn't get him. As, I saw kids along the street literally playing with trash as toys.
It breaks your heart when you see it first hand - Follow your heart and do what you feel is right.

You know that I think what you are doing is absolutely wonderful. If there were more people like you the whole world would be in a lot better shape. The beauty of this country is we get to choose what we want to do & you did for the benefit of others! Doesn't matter what country it is. So, you just keep doing what you are doing, sweetie.

Your countries government should have things in place to care for its own needy. As for Ethiopia they have no stable government or anything to care for them. They need all the help they can get.
I have met some refugees from there and its dreadful what is happening over there.
If you can help them, then do so!!!

Go with whatever. Personally, I would rather help the needy kids in Africa, as they have less opportunity, and less facilities to provide to them. Here in America, we have extra programs to help the needy, but like the above answer said, there are needy people everywhere. Do what makes you feel the best.

I think it is important to help kids out that are in our country as well, but I'm not about to bash someone for doing something good. The point is that SOMEWHERE there are kids in this world that are being helped out because they need it. You don't ONLY belong to your own country, you belong to the whole world, period.
I grew up really poor and there were a LOT of people who helped me... look up your central services place or where they do the toys for tots. You can find a lot of different causes to contribute to, if you would like to do that. There were people who brought food to our house... and we got to go to one of the colleges when I was in a foster home and I guess it was the fire department who set it up? I don't remember but we went to the college where they were holding the whole shebang and there were a bunch of other kids there and we all got one brand new gift, wrapped and everything. You could look into doing something like that.
Don't worry about people puting you down! Keep helping those who need it. As long as it makes you and those kids happy, bystanders shouldn't be able to bring you down.

I think the fact that you are willing to give to anyone is a gift in itself. Plus the poorest of people here in the United States can't shake a stick at the hunger and despair of other countries. So keep doing what you are doing and don't give it a second thought.

I believe that needy people are needy people - regardless of what country they are in. Help who you want to help. The kids in Ethiopia need it more I suspect
