You're not going to get toxic shock from leaving a tampon in for a half an hour, so get over that fast before you really hurt yourself. If you are very new to this, try a low absorbency tampon, either the lites or the teens, if you think you're flow is heavier move on to the regulars. You need to leave it in until you can gently tug on the string and it will easily come out. DO NOT try to yank it out, you can hurt yourself. By the way, toxic shock rarely happens anymore and you'd have to leave it in for over 8 hours which no one does, because it begins to leak by then.
One more thing, you'll know when it's time to up your tampon size, it took me until I was nearly 18 to have to use a jumbo, and that was because my period got very very heavy.

It was because the tampon wasn't fully saturated. So you should leave it in longer. Another thing is for your first time with a tampon you should used the smallest absorbency (such as a lite tampon if you don't already use it) Also your tampon has to be in longer than 8 hours to get TSS.
Here's a website that can help you.
www.beinggirl.com
The website can help you with your questions you can ask them yourself or look them up to see if someone else has already asked.
Hope I helped (:
Also you can email me if you need any help.

It's because tampons dry you out ..they absorb any moisture so yes than can be Very painful to take them out when you are dry. You don't have to worry about Toxic Shock Syndrome if you use tampons normally and leave them in until they fill. It is recomended that you don't leave a tampon in for more than 8h and it won't hurt to change them like every 6h. It is a good idea to use low absorbancy tampons. Best wishes :)

lol its okay to be scared, but try to keep it in for 4 hours that about half of the time that u should have it in. It hurt because the tampon didnt absorb enough fluid, or u pulled it out in a weird way. im thinkin it didnt absorb enough. So keep it in longer. and good luck

Not to be gross, but only having it in for a half hour, it was probably to dry. The more it absorbs the easier it is to take out. If you were nervous about it you were probably tense down there and that could have also been your problem.

Well, I started my period 5 month ago. I have used tampons from the 2ND week i had it. I had to get my mom to do it for me. When I took mine out I cried so loud. It is only because your vagina is not used to it. You might have the wrong size tampon. If it is to big, it can tear the vagina tissue.

As the others have said it may have been too dry. I have been wearing tampons for many years and that still happens to me if i remove it before it is saturated.

You are probably too dry or you are using the wrong size / absorbency. Try using the Jr. or light absorbency it is better for your first few times.

It may have been too dry. Your body is not used to doing that. It will after a few months.
