I don't think it would be, but if you feel unsure you could always have someone watch your baby or go for a walk while they are cleaning your carpets. If you don't feel comfortable leaving completely, you could go visit a neighbor. But I really don't think there is any health risks for you baby. Ask the carpet cleaning guys/girls when they come to clean it if the cleaner poses any health risks for your baby.

I don't think it would be a problem. The chemicals they use now are generally safe. Ask the guy when he comes to do the cleaning though, just to be sure. He may suggest that you take the baby out of the house until he is done, but once the carpet is dry it won't hurt anything.

I dont think it will be a bad thing for baby unless they use some strong chemicals.
Ask them if the chemicals they use are soaps or dry cleaning chemicals. If there is a strong odor, it may be wise to leave the apartment for a couple of hours and let the place air out.

I don't like the fact that dust will be around, can you take him out for a ride or something while they clean the carpet?

depends on what they're using... while my daughter was very young, we opted for steam only cleaning... so it was just super hot water.
sometimes the chemicals they use in the soaps can leave behind residue that is dangerous to ingest as well as inhale. As are many hard floor cleaners - especially those Swiffer type things.
