I'm sure that if a player only plays a certain amount of games before his first full season, he is still considered a rookie, but I'm not sure. 12 games? 15 games? Anyone? Anyone?

A rookie is a player who meets the following criteria
a) Has never played 25 or more games in a single season
b) Has never played more than 6 games in each of two seasons (I've seen mention of Andrei Kostitsyn as a rookie, but he is no longer a rookie)

There is also some misconception. All first year players in the NHL are considered rookies, regardless of age. Any player who is 26 or greater on September 15th of his rookie year..is NOT eligible to win the Calder Trophy

I always thought you were a rookie for your first full season, no matter how many games are played.
