Divorce courts favor women and brides know this--espicially those hooking rich fish husbands. And if kids are involved, divorce can become a sweet cottage industry of financial security. In fact, there are women out there now who view marriage/divorce as a bankable business.
Reduced divorce rates mean more marriages work.
The only way this can happen is to call for and have a total reform made of current U.S. divorce court laws, definitions and settlement sanctions that ARE equally fair to both wife AND husband.
This is something sorely needed, but divorce court attorneys (a powerful Washington D.C. lobby) and the bridezillas making $$$ from divorce surely aren't going to want such reforms made in divorce court.

A lot of marriages fail because people are more in love with the idea of marriage than the actual marriage. They fall in love with the wedding ceremony and don't realize that after that day it's not a big party anymore. People don't communicate where they want to be in 5-10 years and sometimes they end up growing apart because they want different things.
Marriage is a huge commitment and one not to be taken lightly. People need to ask themselves if they can't imagine THE REST OF THEIR LIFE without the other person and if they have the same plans and goals for the future.
Be in love with the man/woman not the wedding.

* I will only speak for my own marriage! Mine is failing because of physical & emotional abuse! Many many times I have turned the other cheek for the sake of keeping 'peace'! I now realize there has been no 'peace' or no love for a long time! To make a marriage work there has to be love & respect! Kindness, fairness & honesty all factor into making a marriage successful*

I don't think most people really know how to get along with others very well or communicate. We learn early on that it is ok to fight with your spouse...we see our parents do it all the time. We later watch them throw their marriage away and file for divorce. We see entertainers, role models, etc., giving up so easy on marriage and think it is the norm. I think more emphasis should be put on staying in a marriage and trying to make it work. We need better role models!

because they don't understand how to work out their problems, and are too quick to blame the other person in the marriage. they fail when one or both of the parties don't feel loved anymore.

Because so many forget as to why they got married in the first place. They look at their spouse's eyes and see nothing, no love, truth, commitment. They quit talking to one another, and soon..the spouse is looking elsewhere for the attention or love they need from someone else. Noone is willing to compromise anymore, it's all about "me and only me". Nor is anyone willing to fight for love anymore.

I think people only think about themselves and then they lose their marriage. I believe its the new way of the world. How much money you have how many toys you accumulate and how many people you can sleep with.
Im about fed up with it.

Because the law makes it too easy to just get a divorce... we as society accept it as a normal occurance. They should tighten the law on divorce... then people would think twice about getting married. Plus no one takes the vows to god (or themselves) to heart anymore.

Lack of communication and selfishness instead of selflessness. They fail to put their spouse above themselves.

I think it is because people stop working hard to make the other person happy and they just grow apart. It's very easy to do.
