Is being civil and polite too hard for you?
Do you really need to express your prejudices with harsh language and derogatory putdowns?
Its funny that being politically correct only means treating others with a modicum of respect, not excessive politeness, and even that's too much for the racist, sexist, stupid, and verbally challenged. Learn to get your point across without resorting to insults and nastiness.
It can be done.

As soon as we get people to realize they are NOT ENTITLED to everything their little hearts desire. SOOO probably never. The UK is mandating it by law a bit more aggressively than the US but it's getting nuts. Schwartzenthingy just signed a law forbidding the use of terms like mother and father in the context of family or marriage in school because some people have either just one or a matched pair. You can't even imply that gender is fixed because 'transgender' groups complained.
Everyone gets a hyphen to make 'em special now.

It's already happened to some extent, and not for the better.

I've mentioned that "political correctness" is these days used as a cudgel by mostly right wingers to stifle reasoned debate on issues and/or an attempt to escape any accountabilty for their words. As if they want to go back to the bad old days when they could use racial, gender and ethnic epithets with impunity.

My view is - for any person of any political persuasion or ideology, go ahead and say what you want to say, but be ready to be called on your words. And that's the difference with folks like Rush Limbaugh - they love to dish out vitrolic rheotoric on their opponents, but they cry like babies when someone comes back and pours water on their words.

When we run out of euphemisms.

Former Interior Secretary James Watts once made the faux pas of referring to an employee as "crippled" (gasp, sob....oh, the humanity!)

Then the term became "handicapped".

This morphed into "disabled".

That wasn't enough of a euphemism, so they coined the term "specially abled"

Eventually, we're gonna run out of stupid ways to avoid saying plainly what we mean. Maybe then the backlash will begin!

Let's see. When we liberals don't like something somebody says, we're sneered at and called "politically correct."

When conservatives get all sensitive about something somebody says, it's because....

....the liberals are talking "treason" if they don't think Bush is wonderful....
....the liberals are having a "war on Christmas" if we simply say Happy Holidays....
....the liberals are "attacking Christianity" if they dare to find problems with the way the extreme right Christians have invaded politics....

Seems to me that conservatives dish it out, but they can't take it.

Never.Mass media has brainwashed enough people to the point of not allowing any opposing viewpoints. One is branded a traitor, misogynist,or racist if voicing an opinion that is politically incorrect.Unless it is done as a comedian.Which of course has no weight because they attach a mixed message with their rants.

Not soon enough to suit me. I'm up to my ears in PC. Next to taking all references to religion out of schools that is the worst thing the liberals have ever done.

Speaking of taking references to religion out of school. You can't find Washington's farewell address in text books below the college level because it's been taken out of them. Why? Because Washington refers to God too often. Is that dumb or what?

Never.

That kind of courage is dead.

It won't happen until the interest groups finally figure out that they are being marginalized by that paranoia. Don't hold your breath.
