OK i'm NOT sending food-for all you wise @sses out there. the kids at the children home get plenty. i posted another question of what else to send them. Unfortunately, I have limited options of where to go. the places near me are:

Staples
CVS
Starbucks
Block Buster
A local pharmacy/store
a couple thrift stores
a Hallmark store
a comic book store

which of these do you think would be my best bet to find cute stuff for the kids? clothes, coloring books, candy, jewelry, etc.

Thanks! :)

Cadavere- I sponsor two girls in Ethiopia, so I have a responsibility to them. And I'd love to do something for kids in my country, but I have to know it's through a reliable source. I know this is reliable b/c it is through my best friend's mother's organization which is totally non profit, and I went with her to Ethiopia this summer. I love the culture there, and I hardly think you should question or criticize someone for doing something like this. It is personal preference. There are many countries that need help. What does it matter which one I choose?

Start of at the thrift stores. You can find good buys at CVS most of the time. Staples is great for the crayons and paper stuff.

God Bless you Roz for being such a kind and caring person. I have a Girls In Action Mission class at church and we sponsor programs like this all the time. It feels so good to be able to help someone else like that. We had a film we showed the entire church and one little girl had to rip the back out of her dress to be able to wear it, because she couldn't afford a new one, so she had to make room for her growth. It's horrible when you see first hand what kind of conditions these poor children and their families are living in. We go to Honduras every year to help out needy families. Sure we support our kids here, but My God I've yet to see the things I've seen in these other countries here. We do the Christmas Shoe Boxes every year that was started by Franklin Graham and it feels so good. You can get alot of stuff from Dollar Stores that are really good things to send them. They love pencils and paper and coloring books and I believe most anything you would be able to send them. We are not allowed to send anything that has been used before, but God it's a Rewarding Program. God Bless Your Heart!

A Thrift or Cosignment Store. If possible, Walmart or Kmart.

How about Salvation Army and Thrift Shops. I think dolls, trucks, balls, candy, jump ropes, coloring books and crayons, just basic things like that and clothes would be wonderful.

you can get great deals at thrift stores and the office supply stores have crafts. kids love crafts- especially girls. you can maybe send them a polaroid camera since they develope right after you take the pic... and send them a photo album. its not too expensive and they would prolly love it. plus you can send them more film next time.

cvs I guess? i mean....unless you find a toy at a comic shop...cause they wouldnt be able to read it, same goes for the hallmark store, blockbuster would be bad because they have no electricity they wont want coffee....nor office supplies... I mean...what about walmart or somewhere else? I mean I'm sure they'd like food more than something from a comic shop...

and have you thought about buying for needy kids in your own country before taking care of someone elses?
