Yes, an RX-8 is very tail happy and is easily controllable at the limit. Keeping the engine spinning in the upper rev range you can hold a drift all day long while easily controlling it with the excellent steering feed back.

Perhaps it would need a little more power for competition drifting (as would most stock cars) and need the drive-train beefed up quite a bit to survive the abuse.

If you are into drift you should go do a little searching and find yourself a 240sx. You should be able to buy a 89-94 for less than $4000 or a 95-98 for about $7000. Mod it up should only run about $7000 TOPS. Then you can use the other $10000 you planned on spending on the rx-8 to get you daily driver.

well 1st of all young lady, drifting is not a easy thing to do. its dangerous to do if you dont know anything about it. a good car for you to start off with would a nissan 240sx then you can work ur way up to a car with more horsepower, or u can get your nissan 240sx and get a engine swap or go turbo. a rx8 is a good car to drift with but the problem is it has a rotary engine, a rotary engine is expensive to fix and maintain, plus the rx8 gets horrible gas mileage, if you really want a mazda get a older model rx7 list of cars - toyota tureno, nissan 180sx, nissan 240sx, toyota mr2, mazda rx7, rx8 thas just some cars.
